Carnivale Salt
I’ve decided that…

For my BFA project I’m going to make costumes illustrating a story I wrote in highschool about a girl who is in love with the witch who lives in the forest. One night, she wanders into the forest and her feet take her to the witch’s cottage, which is obviously forbidden to her. In mixed desire for the craft and for the mysterious woman, she abandons her life in the village and takes up an apprenticeship with the witch.

The garments will be inspired by the work of Annie French, who’s illustrations I’ve been posting. They will also have a mori-kei / dark forest mori aspect. Probably two garments, one representing the girl/apprentice, and one representing the witch/teacher. Some sort of environment will happen, though it will be simple. No elaborate set, but probably a photo backdrop, if it is a floor piece, or photo manipulation if it is a photo piece.

The piece represents a lot to me… but I don’t know if I want to elaborate without a definitive artist statement.
